Fibre Optic Installations in Maidenhead
Home Network Solutions Berkshire offer Fibre Optic installations for business and domestic customers. We can install Multi Mode and Single Mode Fibre optic Cabling and offer both internal and external installations.
Why Fibre Optic Cabling?
Fibre Optic cables are constructed of either glass or plastic and transmit data using light, they are thinner than a human hair but have the capacity to carry far more data than traditional 4 pair copper Ethernet cable (Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat7.).
It is unusual for individual users (PC or Laptops) to connect via Fibre, normally Fibre Optic cabling is used for high capacity links within a network known as backbones.
Fibre Optic cabling can also be used to link buildings which are some distance apart, as it has a longer range than copper Ethernet cable which is limited to 100m.
Unlike copper cabling Fibre Optic is not susceptible to electronic interference as it uses light rather than electricity.

What speeds can be expected from Fibre Optic cabling?
Multi Mode Fibre Optic Cabling has the capacity to work at speeds of up to 100Gps, however most fibre links will either be 1Gps (Gigabit) or 10Gps. It is important to remember that in order to achieve these speeds the network equipment must also have the capacity.
Can I have a full Fibre Optic network?
It is entirely possible to have a full fibre network, however this not normally recommended as most devices have RJ45 connections which work with copper cabling. It is more common to use Fibre Optics as the backbone of the network.
Can Fibre Optic be installed in the home?
Yes Fibre Optic cable can be used in homes, most commonly it would be used to link buildings or provide a back bone for high traffic area.
Are there any disadvantages to Fibre Optic?
Fibre Optic Cabling requires more skill and specialist equipment to install than the copper, meaning it is a more expensive option.
