Complete UniFi Ecosystems – Frequently Asked Questions
What is a complete Ubiquiti UniFi ecosystem?
A complete UniFi ecosystem brings together your wired and wireless network, WiFi, CCTV, door entry, VoIP phones and sometimes audio under the UniFi platform. UniFi OS runs on a UniFi console (such as a UDM Pro, UDM SE or UNVR) and hosts separate apps like UniFi Network, UniFi Protect, UniFi Access and UniFi Talk. You still get a joined-up system, but each function has its own dedicated app within the same environment.
Do I have to install everything at once, or can I build the system over time?
You don’t have to do everything in one go. Many clients start with UniFi Network and WiFi, then add UniFi Protect (CCTV), UniFi Access (door entry), UniFi Talk (VoIP) or other elements later. Because it’s all UniFi, each new platform slots into the same ecosystem and can be managed from the same UniFi console and cloud login.
What are the benefits of using one UniFi system instead of separate brands?
Using a UniFi ecosystem means the network, CCTV, access control and phones are designed to work together. You get a consistent way of managing everything through UniFi OS and the UniFi apps, security updates are handled in a coherent way and there’s less duplication of hardware and licences. It also makes support, monitoring and future upgrades much simpler.
Is UniFi suitable for both homes and businesses?
Yes. We design UniFi systems for large homes, apartments, offices, warehouses, hospitality venues and multi-site businesses. The same core platform can scale from a few devices in a smart home up to full enterprise deployments with multiple buildings and remote locations.
Can you work with my existing cabling and equipment?
Where possible, we will always reuse suitable existing cabling, network cabinets and infrastructure. We can often integrate existing third-party equipment as well, but for the best long-term reliability we usually recommend moving key functions such as WiFi, CCTV and door entry onto UniFi so everything is unified and properly supported.
How do you design a complete UniFi system for a property?
We start by understanding how the property is used and what you need the system to do—WiFi coverage, security cameras, gate control, phones, remote access and so on. We then design the network, cabling, WiFi access point locations, camera positions and access control layout as one joined-up plan. Once agreed, we install, configure and test everything and can provide ongoing remote support if required.
Can you manage and monitor the system for us after installation?
Yes. Many clients choose an ongoing support plan where we remotely monitor their UniFi console, apply updates and assist with changes such as new users, new doors or additional cameras. Because everything runs under UniFi OS, we can see the health of the Network, Protect, Access and Talk apps in one place.
What sort of budget should I expect for a complete UniFi ecosystem?
Costs vary depending on the size and complexity of the property, the amount of cabling required and which UniFi platforms are included (Network, Protect, Access, Talk and so on). Smaller projects might focus on WiFi and a few cameras, while larger homes and commercial sites can run into tens of thousands of pounds. We’ll always provide a clear, itemised proposal so you can see exactly what is included.
Which areas do you cover for complete UniFi systems?
We are based in Maidenhead and regularly work across Berkshire and the surrounding areas including Windsor, Ascot, Marlow, Henley, Burnham, Taplow, Twyford, Wokingham, Caversham, Sonning, Reading, Beaconsfield, Weybridge, Oxford and West London. For larger commercial or multi-site UniFi projects we can work further afield.
